Memorial 2009

The  Memorial Ploughing Match was held at Mottistone Manor Farm by kind permission of Todd and Jackie Carder on Sunday 5th April 2009. This was the first match which is set to become an annual event. It was organised to remember four ploughmen who sadly all passed away in 2008. The four ploughmen were Stephen Hayles, John Attrill, Derek Young and Den Phillips.
The 46 ploughmen all paid a minimum donation of £5, further money was given by sponsors of the event, donations on the gate and a raffle and a total to date of £2050 has been raised in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
Karen Sheath said "the ploughing match idea was originally thought up to remember Steve, who was himself a keen ploughman. The passing away of three further ploughmen changed our ideas slightly and we decided to have one match to remember them all. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and everyone seemed to be have a great time. It was a great social event where everyone could get together and share some memories about some much loved people. To raise over £2000 for the Hospice was just an added bonus and far exceeded my expectations".
